Settings can be set to no microphone, so OnCue watches without listening. Recording a room is one thing and recording what's said in it is another, and until now the second was only avoidable by unplugging something. Choosing no microphone, or no camera, also switches off the trigger that depended on it, rather than leaving a tick behind for a device you just removed.

A recording that can't be saved now says so, instead of failing quietly while OnCue carried on looking like it was working. The menu bar icon turns yellow and the popover says why: no room left, the folder gone, or OnCue not allowed to write there. It stays until you disarm, so it's still there when you come back, and it says how many recordings in a row have gone the same way. OnCue keeps watching either way.

The meters now colour themselves against your own trigger rather than a fixed level: green while what they're picking up wouldn't start a recording, yellow as it gets close, red once it would. Before this, a meter could sit red while nothing was going to happen, or stay green with a recording about to start. And if a recording loses frames, its name says how many seconds are missing, so a thin file can't quietly pass for a complete one.

OnCue only holds the camera while it's actually watching now. Unarmed with nothing open, the camera is off and its light in the menu bar is out, so a lit camera means OnCue is watching rather than just running. If macOS is lighting your screen to brighten what the camera sees, OnCue says so, since that lights the room it's meant to be quietly watching and OnCue can't switch it off itself. Settings says which picker is which, and you can now choose no camera at all and let sound do the watching.

The first release in a long time, and most of OnCue was new. Sound can set off a recording, on its own or alongside motion, and each trigger has its own meter and threshold. Two cameras can watch at once, each recording its own file. Every recording reaches back a few seconds before whatever started it, so the thing you wanted to see isn't already over. Recordings are named for when they started and what recorded them, and they go wherever you point them. OnCue keeps your Mac awake while it's armed, says something when closing the lid would stop it, and can open and arm itself after a restart.
